When you are there, barefooted and on the cold training floor, you are doing the work. You are giving up time with family or friends, comforts, and yet, you are there. You are there because you believe that karate training can change you, for the better, and it can. And... you have something going for you which is even more rare. You have opportunity!
It takes free time, support, money, transportation, health, freedom, and much more to get you out there on the mat. There are hundreds of people in the world who would love to be in your shoes... emmm... well your shoes are in the cubbies, but you get the idea. That's where gratitude comes in. As we approach Thanksgiving, it is a good time to reflect on just how many things had to go right to create this opportunity, and just how lucky we are to be able to suffer through 10 minutes in a horse stance or 100 punching combinations. Even the failures are something to be grateful for. After all, they are part of the squiggly line, and perhaps, the most important part of that line.
